I write a lot in the course of my academic work, but I wanted to establish a place to locate other writings that do not fit that category.
I have written several pieces of short, speculative fiction; and recently have been enthused by the notion of writing things that do not look much like stories or conventional narratives. (Of course, many authors have been here before: Ballard, Borges, Calvino, Lem come to mind.) I had great fun writing “A Good Egg”, but realise that this is not something that fits into many conventional genres: so a blog seemed to be a good idea.
The pieces are intended to stem from different “voices”, some of which may be more congenial than others. There may be latent or overt humour.
- I deal mainly with science fictional, paranormal, or Fortean themes.
- I have been writing for my own pleasure, and I hope that some of this material will be engaging to people with interest in these themes.
- Feedback is welcome. Ideas for reworking into other media especially so!
- I do not “write what I know”, nor even “what I felt”. I write what I imagine, drawing on experiences at some considerable distance.
